Exhibition Plan Summary
What kind of place was this where I stand today 2000 years ago? What was here 1000 years ago? Surely, this land holds countless stories. I envision history as a series of transparent layers. During the Edo period, Kameyama and Seki, situated on the Tokaido and close to Ise Grand Shrine, thrived as post towns. This year, the Kameyama Triennale 2024 will take place.
Ise Shrine, as everyone knows, is one of Japan's most important shrines. Shinto, Japan's indigenous faith, is based on the reverence for the divine presence in nature, in all life, and within human beings. In Shinto, mirrors symbolize sacred power and have long been revered as objects that reflect the invisible presence of the gods. In today's world, however, we are often overwhelmed by the flood of information, causing us to lose sight of what truly matters. One role of art, I believe, is to reflect and express those important things, much like a mirror, making the unseen visible.
What is visible is not always the essence of things. From the perspective that the most important things are not always visible, we need eyes that can perceive the essence hidden everywhere. I wish to quiet my heart, take deep breaths, see the invisible, hear the unheard voices, and continue searching for those precious things that only I can feel.
Artist Statement
I am always looking for the origin of the conflicting sensations that are seen as absurd, irrational, silly, stupid; the contradictions that have created distortions within modern society.
Through humor I express visually what I intuit and reason.
This is for connect with modern society.
