この特別なインスタレーションでは、アルメニアと日本、二つの国の集合的記憶の間に 開かれた対話を促すことを目指しています。インスタレーションは二つの繋がった空間で構成され、その間で相互に関係する対話が反映されます。最初の空間では、進行中のプロジェクト「N0 NAME」の7冊のノートを展示します。 2015年以降、私は手書きの数字を使い、アルメニア虐殺で記録されていない犠牲者を 追悼するためにその命をカウントダウンしています。この空間は、紙の上を鉛筆が擦れ る音と、日本語とアルメニア語で交互に響くカウントの声で満たされます。数字という 普遍的な言語は、日本の原爆犠牲者とその集合的なトラウマをも喚起します。一方、二 つ目の空間では、亀山コミュニティの現代の肖像画がアルメニアディアスポラの肖像画 と静かに対話し、共有された歴史的経験における回復力と生命力を象徴しています。

In this special installation for the Kameyama Triennial, I aim to foster an open exchange between the collective memories of two nations: Armenia and Japan. The installation consists of two interconnected spaces, each reflecting this dialogue.


In the first space, I will present seven notebooks from my ongoing project “N0 NAME”. Since 2015, I have used handwritten numeration to commemorate the undocumented victims of the Armenian genocide, by counting down their lives. The space will be filled with the scratching sound of my pencil moving across paper layered with counting voices alternating between Japanese and Armenian. Numbers, as a universal language, also evoke the memory of Japanese victims of the atomic bomb and their collective trauma, while contemporary portraits of the Kameyama community in the second space silently converse with those of the Armenian diaspora, symbolizing resilience, and vitality in shared historical experiences.

私はアルメニア人の母とシリア人の父のもと、ダマスカスで生まれました。ダマスカス で生化学の修士号を取得した後、2000年にパリに移住し、パリ・ディドロ大学で微生 物学の博士号を取得しました。その後、パリ国立高等装飾美術学校(ENSAD)に入学 しました。2015年からニューヨーク市に居住しています。 私のアートプロジェクトは、パリのEuropiaギャラリー(2013年)、ノートルダム大聖 堂(2012年)、ヌイ・ブランシュ パリ(2014年)、ニューヨークのパワーハウスアリー ナ(2019年)、ブルックリン公共図書館(2020年)、パリのポーリーヌ・パヴェック ギャラリー(2021年)、ニューヨークのマンハッタンパーク(2022年)、トゥールー ズのエキュリュイユ空間(2023年)など、様々な場所で発表されています。

　

I was born in Damascus to an Armenian mother and a Syrian father. After obtaining an M.Sc. in biochemistry in Damascus, I moved to Paris in 2000, where I received my Ph.D. in microbiology from Paris Diderot University. I then joined the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (ENSAD) in Paris. Since 2015, I have resided in New York City.

My art projects have been presented at various venues, including Europia Gallery in Paris (2013), Notre-Dame de Paris (2012), Nuit Blanche Paris (2014), Power House Arena in New York (2019), Brooklyn Public Library (2020), Gallery Pauline Pavec in Paris (2021), Manhattan Park in New York (2022), and Espace Écureuil in Toulouse (2023).

Artist Statement

私の作品は、主に集合的記憶、帰属意識、そして回復力をテーマにしています。世界各 地での多文化的な育成と経験が、私の作品に反映されるテーマや物語を形作っており、 それはしばしばトラウマの集合的記憶を反映しています。私は作品を通じて人間の状 態に向き合い、過去と現在の間を行き来しながらその境界を再考し明らかにしつつ、人々をつなぐ方法で挑戦し続けています。人間の苦痛や苦悩からの回復への願いが私の創 作プロセスの中心にあります。

　

My work primarily centers around themes of collective memory, belonging, and resilience. My multicultural upbringing and experiences in different parts of the world have shaped the themes and narratives that embody in my work, often reflecting our collective memory of trauma. Through my work, I engage with the human condition, navigating between the past and present, constantly challenging boundaries in ways that reveals and unites. Resilience is the beating heart of my creative process in response to human pain and suffering.
