Artist Statement
"When I was afflicted with a brain tumor, my memory became clouded and I lost my sense of right and wrong.
Amidst the loss of self and the impatience with life, I chose to draw pictures, which involve a series of gradual processes, as a way to regain the person I was before my illness.
I was able to remember how to draw, and strangely enough, I was able to judge whether a picture was good or bad.
To doubt that would have meant death, and it would have collapsed very easily.
I don't know if there is an afterlife, but somehow I feel like reincarnation is a kind of reincarnation.
For this exhibition, I was inspired by the garden seen through the window panes of the former Tanaka family home.
I would like to create another garden by painting a parallel world reflected in the mirror on the opposite side."
